Project Period: March 2021 – February 2022
Project Description: Unlocking Climate-related Financial Disclosure in South Africa
The project convened a stakeholder-led process to enable companies and financial institutions to effectively consider climate-related financial risks and opportunities (CFROs) when making long-term investment decisions. It seeks to raise awareness and build capacity within South Africa’s financial sector to undertake CFRO analysis, ensuring the necessary information is available for the analysis to be meaningful, and provide an example of how to undertake the analysis using a representative portfolio of listed South African companies.
As part of the training and awareness raising components of the project, Six Capitals and WWF-SA were responsible for conducting fact sheet research focused on the JSE Top 50 listed companies. This process consists of conducting desktop research on company-level climate reporting using publicly available data (e.g., integrated annual and other issuer public reporting) as sources/reference inputs into the climate related financial disclosure fact sheets, using a template informed by the TCFD framework.
